Environmental Impact Studies

Completing Environmental Impact Studies for both large and small scale developments encompassing all aspects of the natural environment to demonstrate conformity with applicable policies such as the Provincial Policy Statement, Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe, and Municipal Official Plans.  The Birks Natural Heritage Consultants team works with development, land owners, and governments to assure ensure goals are achieved.

Natural Heritage Evaluations

Natural Heritage Evaluations are a growing requirement for development and planning applications in areas governed by the Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation Plan, the Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe, and the Greenbelt Plan.  The Birks Natural Heritage Consultants team has completed hundreds of Natural Heritage Evaluations ranging from large scale residential subdivisions to single home additions.

Species at Risk

The Birks Natural Heritage Consultants team has in depth knowledge of species protected under the Endangered Species Act, 2007 including completing targeted species specific surveys and habitat assessments.  The team has a thorough understanding of provisions made under the Endangered Species Act, 2007 for Butternut, Eastern Meadowlark and Bobolink, as well as making submissions under the Section 17 for Overall Benefit permits. Our Species at Risk knowledge is ideal for due diligence periods and identifying approval requirements under the Endangered Species Act, 2007

Peer Review

The Birks Natural Heritage Consultants, Inc. team has extensive experience providing expert peer review services to various levels of government, and First Nation Communities. Our reviews ranges from residential planning applications to large scale mining Environmental Assessments.

Tree Inventories and Protection Plans

The Birks Natural Heritage Consultants team has an accredited International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Certified Arborist on staff that is skilled in the preparation of Tree Inventories and Preservation Plans. We will work with you from design concept to site plan approval to ensure that existing tree resources are given due consideration through project design, and that the ecological services of the tree resources remain a component of the overall landscape

Agency Approvals

We assist clients in obtaining agency approvals by ensuring compliance with Provincial and Municipal policies.  The Birks Natural Heritage Consultants team has extensive experience working with Conservation Authorities, Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, Ministry of the Environment, Conservation, and Parks, as well as lower tier municipalities.
